I recently applied to be a pattern tester for Kimberly of StraightstitchDesigns.com for her newest pattern. I made her Ravenna top last year and really loved her techniques and voice in her pattern instructions.
I don’t think it’s just me that find traditional patterns overly complex and hard to understand. As a self taught Sewist I find self drafting or using Indie patterns much more enjoyable.
This pattern certainly did not disappoint!! It may be one of my fabroirite things I’ve made. The style is very classic and it has lots of little details that give it extra charm, like the exposed zipper in the back, the little pocket flaps, and buttons. I couldn’t find the perfect buttons in my stash so I put in an order for these adorable little kitten buttons from Arrowmountain.etsy.com. I just tacked the flaps down with a couple stitches until my buttons arrive. Aren’t they adorable?! I think they will make the purrfect addition 😉
The fabric is from the Kaufman Essex linen collection. It is called Rose. I actually bought it after making this tent for a friend and then accidentally damaged a large section of it with stains from my fabric softener. I’ve had 8 yards just sitting in my craft room unsure what to use it on. I think it was just meant to be for this skirt because I would not have typically have grabbed this color for my own apparel but now I LOVE it! I am already scheming what I will make next.
